My scaleup story: Laura Leyland, Fresh Perspective Resourcing

Q
How did you know you were ready to scale and why did you apply for Two Zero?
A

We’re a recruitment company focused on making a positive impact on the lives of others, by helping candidates find their next career move and arming them with valuable information and helping companies fix problems and grow, hiring them fantastic candidates in a fresh, ethical and fun way.

At the time that I came across Two Zero we had been looking into funding options to facilitate growth for this business. We realised that in recent times we had become less bold in our decision making and that growth had plateaued, so we wanted to make a change. Then I found out about Two Zero and it seemed to be like the law of attraction in full force!

Q
What have you learned through the programme and how has your business grown / changed since being involved?
A

That I am capable of more than I realised, that funding for our business isn’t a bad thing – I have a negative attitude to debt due to my personal circumstances and because of that had shied away from getting loans etc for the business – but Sam White’s explanation of it really put it into perspective.

I believe in myself more and my ability to promote myself and my business online and face to face and I am much much more confident – we now have a podcast, a radio show, regular live videos on social media and are thinking about producing a show! These are not necessarily ideas that came from Two Zero but my willingness to do them did.

Q
How did coronavirus challenge your business and how did Two Zero help to manage that?
A

Coronavirus was terrible for us. March, April and May were the worst months we had ever had aside from the beginning! Two Zero, whilst it couldn’t continue as we planned provided a support network of like minded ladies who were experiencing very similar issues and it was wonderful.

Q
What’s your plan for the next three years?
A

To grow and help more people! To have our own building with event space, a training room, recording studio and an army of Freshies!

To be turning over £1m and have our own TV show!

Q
What are your top three tips for companies who want to scale their business?
A
  • Believe in yourself
  • Get funding – don’t be scared of it
  • Market yourself and your business online all the time!
