My scaleup story: Nick Dykins, Slingco

Q
How did you know you were ready to scale and why did you apply for Two Zero?
A

Slingco manufacture specialist engineered products that enable the installation of industrial cables, conductors, and hoses.

Situated in the Rossendale Valley with locations in India and the US, Slingco has won the Queens Award for Enterprise in International Trade for the second time in four years this year.

We have been growing substantially for several years and 2020 started well, then Covid-19 hit. The team recognised the need to think differently and quickly – to reset, get ready to go again.

Q
What have you learned through the programme and how has your business grown / changed since being involved?
A

The programme has great content and we have made new connections and contacts through being involved. We have seen our fifth month of growth in a row and a number of new strategic projects are underway.

Q
How did coronavirus challenge your business and how did Two Zero help to manage that?
A

April revenue dropped substantially.

By engaging with the programme, we have seen the confidence of other business leaders,  benefitted from the support of the coaches and gained a framework to focus on what will move the needle. That has been great for Slingco.

Q
What’s your plans going forward?
A

We are keen to continue scaling up and want to double in size over the next three years!

Q
What are your top three tips for companies who want to scale their business?
A
  • Have a compelling vision
  • Hire great people
  • Help – don’t hinder… 😊
